Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Dark oolong tea, fleshy stone fruit, freshly picked cherries, cranberries, floral notes of violet and rose. A bit savory with oregano, and sweet tea like tannins, as well as hints of black pepper, cinnamon, and clove.
Vineyard Notes
This wine is the book end to Tempranillo. Whereas Tempranillo is the first harvested variety, Graciano is the last. Its late ripening gives it an interesting profile. The tannin structure is incredibly unique as it is very present but refined due to the longer hang time on the vine. We harvested this fruit in late November and were a bit apprehensive at first as our harvest had already began to come to an end but the excitement to try a new variety kept the energy at the winery high.
Production Notes
The fruit had wonderful natural acidity and the decision was made to cellar it for an additional year in barrel; 100% French, 100% neutral. Long cellaring on no sulfite wine is a new practice for Casa Barranca.
Winemaker Notes
Generally we worry about the stability of the wine but the risk was worthwhile. The tannin profile softened and the aroma deepened into this very fine, tea like profile. I hope that you enjoy this wine. Only 4 barrels were produced.
